What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a specialised area of dentistry which diagnoses and treats unsightly irregularities of the teeth and jaws. Treatment is conducted over a period of time using appliances attached to the teeth, guiding them into new positions with gentle pressure over time. Giving you straight teeth and a well balanced smile.
What is Dento-Facial Orthopaedics?
This involves modifying jaw growth to improve the structural disharmony which often underlies the development of a malocclusion (irregular teeth). In the growing child, orthopaedics allows harmony to be restored to the unbalanced face and the most attractive smile developed.
What benefits from Specialist Orthodontics?
Orthodontics has been one of the fastest moving specialties in recent years and the many new developments now allow results to be achieved more rapidly and closer to ideal aesthetics, function and health than ever before. At Dr Mahoney’s Dental Clinic in Prague we use the latest materials, braces and techniques.
Braces without Braces?
We offer the amazing orthodontic treatment known as INVISALIGN. All of your dental records are digitalised and a hi-tech precision machine produces a plastic tray system of braces for you. Nearly invisible to the naked eye, your family, friends and co-workers will never even know that you are having orthodontic treatment to move your teeth. You get a beautiful smile without the unsightly uncomfortable braces or brackets
When to start?
You are encouraged to refer children between the ages of 6-9 years old. So abnormal development and any disharmony in growth can be picked up early and a treatment planned for the optimal result. However, the doctor will advise because for we have to allow for maximum facial change, which also reduces treatment duration. Early treatment, when appropriate, can usually be carried out an age when there is less schooling and social demands on the child. Dental irregularities in the teenage patient may still be treated with maximum efficiency too.
Can adults also benefit?
Although the ideal time to have orthodontics is whilst the patient is still growing, age need not be a barrier. Adults who missed the opportunity to have orthodontic treatment during childhood, or who have more recently developed problems, are now able to benefit from the improvements in technique and aesthetic materials, making orthodontic care acceptable whatever the age.
We supply the necessary cleaning appliances
Orthodontic brushes provide a longer filament head to improve access around the braces or appliances. Use gentle but direct brushing to include the appliance and tooth surfaces. Interdental brushes clean simply and effectively around brackets and wires. Simple adaptation of the brushes helps clean tooth surfaces and the appliance properly. Single tufted brushes are useful for the difficult to access places. Filaments (an individual manufactured toothbrush bristle) can also reach the tooth surface and under the gum margins.
